ADVICE ON...

CAR AUDIO
Although factory fitted in-car entertainment has got more advanced, there's still plenty of scope for improvement. The first thing that's needed is a way of interfacing new in-car sound system components into the factory wiring. That's no problem. InCar Expert members have access to a wide variety of good quality, reliable factory interface devices and all the cables and other general accessories to get everything working perfectly.

How to improve your factory in-car sound system
Here are some first steps to think about.
1] Upgrade the factory fitted head unit
2] Add an Amplifier
3] Add MP3, CD Changer, DAB Digital Radio, DVD or Sat Nav
4] Perhaps first of all, change those factory car speakers!

SATELLITE NAVIGATION
Thanks to increased production and falling prices of portable devices, 'Sat Nav' has become one of the latest high-tech "must have" products.

The more sophisticated fixed or "embedded" in-car navigation systems have also come down in price but have nonetheless remained in the "serious user" bracket. These fixed Sat Nav systems offer a number of benefits over the portable devices but lose out on the one big advantage of the latter - their portability and therefore ability to be moved from your car to your partner's car, hire car etc.

GPS Sat Nav - how does it work?
Global Positioning satellites are constantly circling the Earth and each follows a set path and speed around the globe. At any particular time, each satellite will be at a very precise location in the sky. Signals beamed to Earth can be read by receiving equipment down below to very precisely position objects on the ground.

CAR SECURITY

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, car alarm systems were notorious for not only being relatively ineffective and easily bypassed, but also prone to false triggering. Car security has come a long way in the last ten years, especially in terms of effectiveness and reliability. It takes many forms - from immobilisation and car alarm systems, to tracking devices and advanced anti-hijack measures.

Few security devices that can be fitted by motorists are effective. Locking wheel nuts offer specific protection of high value alloy wheels and are recommended, and a good steering wheel lock may provide some visible deterrent but not against theft of items from the vehicle. DIY fitted car alarms are easily defeated by all but the most rookie thief or joyrider.

It is the professionally fitted car security systems that are by far the most effective. Many insurance companies offer discounts where a certified security system has been fitted, but all will demand a certificate showing that the system has been fitted by an accredited professional installer.

IN-CAR DVD VIDEO
It wasn't so long ago that the idea of having video screens in your car seemed like something only the rich and famous could afford, but the latest choice of products has changed that.

Once restricted to travel scrabble or card games, rear seat entertainment has also changed; it now involves video games players or DVD movies shown on headrest TVs or drop down roof-mounted screens.

The complexity of these installations required our members to acquire new skills in leatherwork and coach-trimming, but as demand increased, ready-made replacement headrests and door panels became available. So while our members are skilled enough to build an LCD screen into your car's factory headrest, an off-the-shelf solution of replacement headrests pre-fitted with screens can be both quicker and more cost-effective.

Car interiors are full of materials that obstruct and degrade sound quality. Graphic and parametric EQs are only partial remedies for these problems. In addition, the speakers are not located at equal distances from listeners, creating an unbalanced, uncentred sound stage. Time correction can help fix this, but only for one listening position.

These acoustical problems are so severe that no correction system has been able to overcome them. Until now, claims Alpine. With the introduction of IMPRINT, Alpine provides a hardware/ software combination that not only claims to solve these problems, it actually improves the sound stage, tonal balance and definition — and does it automatically, in a matter of minutes.
