I Love My New Stereo April 10, 2009 A. Fletcher (uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The CDX GT929U was easy to fit, and has a clear punchy sound, very impressed good graphics & Display well worth the money, if you read the manual its easy to set the levels. all i want to do is go driving.
Good, room for improvement December 11, 2008 DaFoot (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bought this one as I liked the cable from rear to position USB port where I wanted it and liked the idea of the slide down front for CD insertion (very cute :) ).
I don't normally bother reviewing items but felled compelled to after the last review.
The control still can be a bit over sensitive but once you get the hand of it, it works well. Regarding too much fiddling while driving, the sheer number of options this unit offers I think you'd be daft to try and adjust the fiddly options while driving.
The options that are useful to switch quickly while driving are easy to switch (skip tracks, volume, change between radio/CD/mp3 etc).
The background image can be changed/switched off easily(read the manual - it's all in there in plain English).
One bug bear I do have is not yet found options to change display mode when playing mp3s. Rather than the default of showing the artist, I want it to cycle through artist/track name/album name repeatedly. Or even just an option to choose which I want to display while it plays mp3s.
If I find a setting to do that I'll up my rating to 5 stars.
EDIT:
I have now found how to change the display settings for mp3 track info. I can now select artist/track/album as required, pressing same button cycles through each. If Amazon would let me I would up my review from 4 to 5 stars.
Great, albeit a tad fiddly January 20, 2010 W. Dawson (UK) Fiddly because of the main navigation wheels. Clicking 5 different directions and spinning for volume is bad enough, but it gets twenty times harder to do when driving. Comes with remote however which can replicate 80% of the functions.
Aside from that, good product. Sounds great and looks alright, even if it is a bit bright.
Atrac can be played if you have walkman only May 1, 2009 Mr. Nerijus Vasiljevas (London,UK) I had this unit for a month now, and i think it is ok, a bit too expensive but ok.
It gets very very and i mean very how when you play music on medium volume, you can fry eggs easy on the back of this unit, so i had to put a little fan the back of it (helps a bit)
+ remote, easy to use, powerful, usb.
- heat, usb failures sometimes, light on the joystick does not dim(or change colour), too bright at night.
So i think this is a good HU from sony but with the price tag like that it gets too hot and could change screen colour to reb/blue/green and joystick surround.
Would i recommend it to someone ? YES
Would i buy one again ? Same one NO , another YES.
Bad/Potentially dangerous design - Not recommended September 25, 2008 E. Naylor 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can honestly say there is nothing i like about this stereo. ive just had it installed as a replacement for my old stereo that was stolen. That was also a Sony and i loved it. I expected the same ease of use etc so am really disappointed with this one.
The main problem is the circular button has too many functions attached to it. Turning it adjusts volume, flicking it from side to side changes tracks which is fine but you have to press the button in in order to then change sound settings etc. Its very sensitive and difficult to press it without also changing track or re-starting the track you were listening to. Not only was this irriating but quite dangerous whilst i was driving as had to concentrate on what was happening with the stereo rather than the road!
It took me ages to figure out how to actually turn the stereo on in the first place and ive just found it generally difficult to use with odd control buttons. I also dont like the graphics(football scene and car racing scene) and am trying to figure out how to turn that off.
Basically, if id had bought it normally it would be going back to the shop. I will be investigating replacing it for something else.
