2 out of 5 stars User interface and display   February 1, 2010

Sound: The sound quality of this product is excellent and offers most needed to customise it to one's own preferences.
User interface: It is necessary to spend a good amount of time to customise the user interface to a decent degree of usability and study the user manual so as to gain sufficient understanding how to operate it safely. One should definitely program favourite stations to avoid lengthy interactions with the unit or the remote controller for selecting stations. The remote controller needs to be pointed exactly toward the unit and is not always received by the unit (with new batteries). The display lucks the ability to show deep black. This results in an unpleasant look especially in "negative" display mode, as the supposedly black background bleeds light. Also, the viewing angle cannot be optimised for the front passengers irrespective of how one adjusts the contrast. In addition, from the front passenger's position the display colour looks slightly different than when looking at it perpendicularly. Doing even simple things requires far more key presses and operations than an older Kenwood unit that I had, and this might be more dangerous while driving.
Other cosmetic issues: When powering ON or OFF (with demo mode OFF) the unit does some colour change effects which are not to the taste of everybody (I would prefer it to simply turn ON or OFF without these effects)
