well worth the money October 28, 2009 C. Reed (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well worth its money, although it took quite a while to upload the maps, would deifinitely recommend it.
Does what its meant to do June 29, 2010 Noddy This product arrived in good time and did everything it was meant to do, i.e. give me lifetime update of European maps for my satnav. The process was very straight forward and my satnav had a new set of maps and updated software in about two hours.
Nuvi Lifetime Maps February 24, 2010 GW (West Midklands) Takes a some time to download maps dependant upon broadband connection and speed so you have to be a little patient. Once downloaded the process is quite straightforward.
Lifetime updates? Yes, please! May 22, 2009 Tom Raftery (Seville, Spain) 39 out of 39 found this review helpful
I bought a Garmin Nuvi back in 2006. Love it. It has been really useful as I do a lot of travel and I can use it in cities I am unfamiliar with all over Europe as a walking guide as well as for driving.
Of late, I was noticing that more often the maps were out-of-date. Roads had gone one-way. New roads had been built, etc. so I went to look into updating the maps.
For a little extra, instead of getting a once-off update, I could get a lifetime of updates? Superb!
I went with that option. I have now updated the maps on the Nuvi and find it a joy to use once more.
The 3gb download is a bit of a downer (takes quite a while!) but other than that, no regrets.
Good product - once you've got it installed . . . October 9, 2009 DLS (London, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
The maps are great - only had one problem turning off a brand new motorway in Poland. Used it as a handheld getting around Dresden on foot/public transport, plotting attractions and restaurants. Really pleased.
This giftcard option is cheaper than buying direct from Garmin, and I like the idea of updates for not so much more than a one-off. Not experienced an update yet so can't comment on that.
The hassle was with getting it all set up. The Garmin website! - finding the relevant sections for download and support is a pain. Their helpline will sort you out, but that is useless if you are doing it out of hours - the email support takes days to get back to you
As others have said, download to PC takes forever, but you can leave it to run.
Maybe, if my Nuvi 200W hadn't been a present, I would have known it has insufficient memory to load all of Europe into it. But I didn't, so was confused when I tried to load the maps as you could only chose one (various options of individual countries or regions). Whatever you load overwrites the exisitng map on the satnav - but you can change/reinstall. The install software isn't particularly fast.
To use the whole Europe map, I had to buy a 2MB (maximum) standard SD card and SD card reader and load the map onto that.
Just wish there had been some Garmin website guidance on all this so that it didn't turn into a last minute nightmare. I deducted one star for the hassle
